Types of Pottery
Raku - a Low-fired earthenware; traditionally made in Japan. The pots are taken from the still firing Kiln and placed in the wood chips to reduce the metal oxides in the glazes. This process gives many different colors and results. Raku pieces are for ornamental use, and should not be used with liquid without a liner or dish to hold the water.Stoneware - a high-fired ware with slight or no absorbency. Stoneware can be used with liquid, for serving food, stoneware is considered vitreous (glass like).
*Important*
All pottery should be treated like it is glass. Test your pottery before you use it with liquids, it is also recommended to use felt or a doily of some kind under the pottery to prevent scratches.
